Three Reasons To Attend Your State Homeschool Convention This Year!
It's that time again! Who's going to convention this year? As a former nurse I had to take Continuing Education Credits to stay in touch with my field. As a homeschooler this is exactly what I find convention does for me. It allows me to stay connected to what's going on in the world around us regarding homeschooling.
I have Three reasons that "I" attend convention each year:
1- Filling My Cup!
All year long we pour out, pour out, pour out. Convention is about filling up! The truth is I simply cannot pour from an empty well. As I sit and visit with friends, take a dip in the pool, relax in the spa it's a time of renewing and refreshing my spirit, my mind, my body.
2- Staying Informed
One of my goals as a veteran homeschooler is to never get so comfortable I stop being teachable. There is always new information, new idea's, new curriculum, new something. One of the advantages of going to your STATE convention is they normally have the funds available to bring in the big speakers. (National) Though you could stay home and simply purchase the CD's it's just not the same as when youíre sitting in a room with 500 or 5000 fellow homeschoolers.
3- Walking The Vendor Hall
I donít know what your vendor hall looks like, but ours is the size of a professional football field. No Kidding! It is wall-to-wall vendors. The longer I homeschool the less I shop for my mainstream curriculum. I was so excited to see that Time4Learning is going to be at FPEA this year!
This year we are changing things up a bit. I plan to use Time4Learning as the core curriculum for my older son and as a supplement for my two younger boys who will be doing Classical Conversations this year.
I plan to look ahead to our Time4Learning lessons and pick up some go along books and crafts to add some fun.
What about you? Why do you or do you not attend your state convention?
