TOP SECRET ISSUE... re:creative writing
by Jamie

So, you've dropped by to find out our TOP SECRET... creative writing motivator. Well, it is something so motivational you'll probably want to sit down... fun - exciting - creative - and writing... all in the same context!

Getting impatient? Is the suspense killing you? Alright, alright - here goes... one of the best ways to motivate your older elementary through high school student in creative writing is to teach them how to blog. Really! I know this by experience, as well as from many other homeschooling families. I introduced my older daughters to blog writing and their creative writing began to blossom. The context of blog writing incorporates creativity in many aspects, so it apeals to everyone's desire to make something meaningful and attractive. They get the opportunity to create their own space by putting together their blog background and themes. Then they decide what type of material they are going to write about - again their decision, and finally they begin to fill the blog with their own amazing creative writing. It is so much fun, it actually becomes addicting. Can you imagine, kids who hated writing anything - begin to actually LOVE writing creatively on a regular basis.

I am so excited about this and how it encouraged my own children in their writing progress, I just want to tell everyone! Got a child who hates writing? Find a nice safe child - friendly blogging platform (many use homeschool blogger) and set them up. They may have to watch a tutorial or take a blog writing course to get going, but once they do... watch out! Creative writing will be flowing - and NOT TEARS!

LOVE IT! Honestly, I never thought about blogging as a way to be creative with writing! Oh my! This may be just what I need with my 6th grader! I'd only thought about blogging as a way for the parents to communicate. I guess I'm a little slow! Thanks bunches!

I am SO glad you wrote this today. I have told my 14 year old that I wanted him to blog but I keep meaning to "get" to it. (sigh) Just the motivation I needed;-)
