After Labor Day. Both of my boys' birthdays are in August, and we attend DragonCon over Labor Day weekend. It's a really big deal for us, so the month of August is full of countdown excitement, autograph planning and costume/cosplay prep.

I figure out when we want to finish the school year, and count backwards to see when we need to start in order to be done by then. Of course, we still do a little here or there over the summers, but I wouldn't classify us as year-round homeschoolers.

    We started July 29.
We usually go all year, but we took off 3 weeks, because I needed some planning time and they needed a break.

We normally school year round because my daughter hates to review, and I hate the stalling of school when we come back from a long break. Her birthday is at the end of July and we normally take a week or so off for that and then jump back in full swing when our homeschool co-op and other extracurricular activities resume, usually on the public school schedule sometime in August. For us that will be this coming week.

This year we will officially begin the first week of September, but we don't take all the holidays and breaks so we still finish early.

We're starting 5th and 1st grade on August 26th. We typically start after Labor Day but needed to start a week early this year since we're attending Minecon in November.

I would have started when the local public schools did last week, but it was ridiculous to try and get him started on something new during a crazy week. My 18 year old started community college last Tuesday and my 19 year old left for Israel this morning. Last week my middle child needed help adjusting to college and my oldest needed last-minute trips to buy things she needed to pack and I needed to adjust to "not having access to the car every day."

We set up the credit card for TFL access on Friday and I'll start making Jack do the online lessons next week (tomorrow.)
