Some people are really intimidated by the thought of homeschooling preschoolers. Preschool is when they learn their numbers and they learn their letters. They learn their colors and shapes too. But is it really that hard to teach preschool? I don’t think so. I think the most important thing to do with preschool aged children is to read to them. Read, read, read, and then read some more. This will lay the foundation for their love of books.

While you are reading you can use books that talk about numbers such as 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo: A Counting Book by Eric Carle. There are books about colors like A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni. The Alphabet Tree by Leo Lionni is a great way to introduce letters to your child.

Another way to help your preschooler is by playing games. There are a number of great games to play with your child. We loved the Starfall game. It has two sides. One is for when they are first learning their letters. The other is for when they are learning words. We also loved playing preschool games online.

Let your little one help you cook. Cutting up fruits with a butter knife is a fun way for them to help. Or tossing a salad. Cooking is so much fun for them. I have even seen cookbooks that have pictures instead of words for the recipe.

Whether you are reading books to your child, playing games with your child, letting them help you cook, or just playing with your child. You are helping them learn. Our little ones are like little sponges. They soak up learning wherever they are. Have fun with your preschooler.
