We made our kids clean their rooms this past week. Kids being kids, most of the stuff they cleaned out of their rooms ended up in big black yard waste bags. We had about 4 of these bags of stuff sitting here waiting to be sorted. I knew that I was going to have to get busy and sort it all and I was NOT looking forward to it! You maybe asking the same question that my friend asked me. "Why don't you have the kids sort through it all?"

That's a very good question and normally I would have had them do it. However, I know my kids. I knew that they would just say, "I don't care what's in the bag, just get rid of all of it!" I suspected that there were things in those bags that didn't even belong to them. Nope, there was no way I was getting out of this!

So today I tackled those bags. I found towels that belong to me and dirty clothes that my kids just threw into the bags along with everything else rather than make the effort to put them in the hamper. I found Wii Motion Controller Sleeves and books and movie cases with the DVDs in them. There was a LOT of stuff that I rescued and just as much stuff that I just decided to go ahead and toss.

What I'm wondering is, has this kind of thing ever happened to other moms? At what point do you decide that it's time for mom to step in rather than making the kids do it?
