Homeschool Grading

I've never worried too much about grades before this year. I figured as long as my kids do the assignments and understand the gist of the lesson, then it was all good. However, with one in high school I'm having to keep track of his grades for his transcript. It has been an interesting adventure!

I was asking a friend, who has graduated two kids from homeschool, if she thing's it is legit to give my son credit for answers that he had to go back and correct. Her advice was to review the concepts that were part of the questions he got wrong, then go ahead and count them. Of course, I don't give him credit if he has to redo the question multiple times before he gets it right, but then I'm not sure that has happened yet.

I've heard it said that there is no reason that homeschoolers shouldn't be able to make straight A's. If you think about it, that's true. We have the advantage of being able to go back over concepts until we are confident that our student has GOT it. By doing this, even when they get to a unit test, they should know the material well enough to ace the test.

What is your opinion? I'd love to hear it! By the way! While we are sort of on the subject, recently my son had this question in history: "Give some examples of behavior that could be considered primitive or barbaric that are practiced in today's world." He answered, "Picking our noses!" What are some of the funniest answers your kids have given to questions in their homework?

    Goodmorning to you an yours...

I've seen your comments on the grading system.I love Time for learning because they do allow you so much time to go back an get it right. You have the one on one with your kids instead of just letting them fail if they really didn't understand the subject. So I pray that when my son is ready for high school I've got all our ducks in a row:).I don't want to just give him a grade that he didn't pass on his own,but like I said thats where studying the lesson to retake the test over again helps out alot! Just wanted to share my view with you have a bless day...
