My son went to public school until this year. Elementary school was alright, we had to be pretty pushy to get him the 504 Accommodation he needed, but once that was in place the elementary school was good for him, but last year he was in sixth grade and went to middle school. I know middle school is difficult for all kids, but I can't believe the negative effects it had on him. Not only has he lost interest in learning for its own sake, he's convinced he's too stupid to even go to community college. If you'd told me one year could do this much damage I'd have said you were crazy!

I have a son who's 11 years older and I homeschooled him through middle school successfully, but he didn't have ASD. My 12-year-old is defiant and difficult. I suspect hormones are playing a part, but I'm really hoping we can get him in line soon because I don't want to spend the school year at war with him over doing his work.
