    There is some small controversy over just who first proposed the celebration of Labor Day. Some say that a guy named Matthew Maguire came up with the idea. Others claim that it was Peter McGuire who had the idea. Whichever it was, they both suggested it back in 1882. It wasn't till 1894 that it became an official Federal Holiday.
