Western Connecticut Homeschool Co-op Accepting Applications for New Members

In its sixth year, the Western Connecticut Homeschool Cooperative (WCHC) located in the Northville section of New Milford, is open to new members. WCHC meets from 9:30 to 2:30 each Tuesday from mid-September through the beginning of June (with holiday/seasonal breaks). We are an eclectic group of families who enjoy spending time together learning and supporting our individual journeys as homeschoolers.

The WCHC strives to offer a healthy balance of academic, arts-oriented, and social opportunities for kids from pre-school age through high school age (3-17). We are fortunate to have a talented group of parents who offer a wide variety of classes. Past classes have included Contemporary Poetry, Introduction to the Legal System/Mock Trials, Paleoknowledge, Outdoor Science, Sign Language, Astronomy, Aviation, Conversational French, Classic Literature, Spanish, Teen Yoga, Teen Music Slam, Teen Lunch Prep, Latin, Co-operative Games, Math Word Problems Made Easy, Intro to Chemistry, Kids Cooking, Karate, Myths and Fairy Tales, and Math SAT Prep. Classes for teens include high school level classes in a variety of disciplines. The WCHC also organizes outside activities such as field trips related to course material as well as social time for kids and teens.

The WCHC is a secular organization welcoming families of all backgrounds and faiths. The Northville Baptist Church, where the WCHC meets, is conveniently located off Route 202, just four miles north of New Milford's town center. With plenty of outdoor space, including grassy areas, a beautiful stream, blacktop with basketball hoop, and a covered picnic area, our kids have wonderful opportunities for outdoor playing and learning and for simply hanging out together. The interior space allows our co-op families to spend time in a spacious central gathering area and to take advantage of the fully functional kitchen which is used both for cooking classes and for the preparation of a delicious lunch offered by one our parents. The space also includes a wonderful mix of classrooms, several with audio visual equipment.

If you would like further information about the Western Connecticut Homeschool Co-op or would like to schedule a visit, please contact our new member coordinator, Anne Kelly at [email protected] sbcglobal. net. The WCHC is now accepting applications for the spring session, which begins Tuesday, March 27th.
