    Default Using Caculators

    I am trying to decide if I want to let my 4th Grade daughter use a calculator in her work I need some opinions or suggestions.

    Hi, Mekisha! I will sometimes let my kids use calculators, but it really depends on the kid. With the younger kids, I like to make sure they really know their facts or know what they're doing before they start using the calculator. My teens use their calculators religiously. lol

    I don't let mine until high school, and I have them "show their work", so I can see if they have just made a minor error or if they really don't know how to do a specific problem.

    Working through those problems themselves gives practice with addition and multiplication facts without all the drill that some students need.

    I would wait till Jr high at least. In elementary , kiddos are still learning the basics and need the practice.
