If you click on some of the links provided at the beginning of this thread you may be able to find some groups in your area. Or you can go to the link at the top of the page where it says Community. Click on that and then click on Member Locator. Put in your state and your county. That should bring up a list of other members in your area. You can contact them to see what groups they are in in your area.

    Hi all!
Last year we homeschooled our now 6 year old daughter for Kinder while we lived shortly in Northern VA for the year, now we are back in Maine - in the Portland region, and our daughter is currently in public 1st grade. We also have three other children who are younger. We are now considering homeschooling our children, but are unsure of the homeschool community around us, and was curious if anyone knows how active it is for the younger Elementary crew?

    Thanks!
    Stephanie

    Default Thanks for the info!

I'm thrilled to have stumbled across this thread. I've been homeschooling for two years now and this is the first year I have to report. I live in Biddeford and have been having trouble locating a local group. I'm in desperate need for some guidance with the portfolio and finding a certified teacher to evaluate.
    Thanks again.

Default Home Schoolers of Maine (HOME)

Home Schoolers of Maine offers a list of local support groups on their website. homeschoolersofmaine.org Groups are organized according to county location, so it's easy to find local groups then you can simply email the group leader for more information. HOME also has a homeschool convention each spring and offers other services such as legal information, portfolio review, support, high school graduation, etc. You can also sign up for their email newsletter on their website

Some local support groups that I'm familliar with are:
    TEACH (in Waterborro area)
    LIGHTS (in Hollis area)
    Ridgeway (in Scarborough)
