Back to School...
Or is it Not Back to School in your house?
Has everyone already started back yet, or are you still enjoying a summer break? We don't start back until after Labor Day here.
Are there any annual traditions that you guys do to get back into the swing of things?
Please share with us...I'd love to see some conversations get started in our group!Katie

thinking of homeschooling my son
I don't even know where to begin, other than HELP! I have a 15 year old who did not attend one day of 9th grade. He had social anxiety going to school because of an incident that happened to him in 8th grade. After lawyers, counseling and trying to get an IEP from the school, it was determined that he go to a therapeutic school. Well, my son does not what to go to a "special school" or the local HS. At this point, if he doesn't attend any school, we will be reported to CHINS. Not an option for my son or myself. I have several different opposing opinions (ex-husband, lawyer and psychologists) stating that this would not be healthy for my son, but I see no other option other than to home school him.
Needless to say, besides being overwhelmed with the prospect of CHINS, I have to figure out how to get the home school ball rolling.

Hi there, and welcome. I am so sorry you are having so much trouble! I am a huge advocate for homeschooling...we've been at it since 2005. I have definitely heard where people have run into opposition and opposing thoughts when it comes to homeschooling, from family and friends. But, when you say a psychologist opposes because they do not think it's healthly, well, what part were they worried about?
I certainly don't need to know all of your personal business, lol, but Massachusetts homeschool laws state that you have to be approved for homeschooling. I have never heard of an incident where a family was NOT approved, but I just wanted to kinda let you know that. I don't know that that opinion of the psychologist or the lawyer or anything else will be considered in the approval process. Usually that revolves around the proposed curriculum and educational materials you want to use for the year.
For the approval, families who use Time4Learning general will print out the grade level curriculum overview, showing everything they will learn in that grade. If your son is starting 9th this year, you could print the Time4Learning high school overview. If the school board wanted further elaboration on the 9th grade studies, click on each course in the high school overview that your son would be taking. For instance, click "English I" to see a more thorough outline of what that course entails.
I hope that made sense. Again, I am so sorry to hear of your trouble. Please always feel free to ask any questions you may have!Katie
