Default That mysterious 'Certificate of Enrollment' unveiled

If you're considering homeschooling in Mississippi for the first time, you may be wondering exactly what the 'Certificate of Enrollment' you'll be required to file by September 15th looks like. Well, wonder no more!

You can find a scanned image of the all-important form here: http://homeschoolcafe.blogspot.com/2...for-first.html

Be sure to stick around the blog at the link above after you've gotten your sneak peek at the form. It was put together by a handful of homeschooling Mississippi moms and provides some great info and inspiration.

Hello and welcome, bet! Have you joined the Mississippi Peak Network yet? If not that would be the first place I'd start in your search for homeschool groups. http://peaknetwork.org/

    Where exactly is Wesson?

Well wouldn't you know? I turned in my certificates of enrollment for the year last week and the form is still basically the same with only a minor exception... There are now a few blank lines provided to describe the educational program you will be using and you are no longer asked to attach such a description. Mine was filled out with the stock answer "Standard instruction using curriculum appropriate for 6th grade".

This is the first year I haven't provided them with in-depth information about what we're doing... I feel sort of liberated by that. I also feel a little nervous about that.

I'm considering homeschooling my child, due to school issues and ADHD. What if I start thr homeschool program now, with it being after Sept. 15th? Thanks!

Hi and welcome! I hope I can be of help to you while you consider the homeschool option!

You can withdraw your child from the public school system at any time - even after the September 15th deadline - and begin homeschooling. The certificate of enrollment must still be filed with your county attendance officer as soon as possible. I believe there is a 10 day 'grace period' between withdrawing your child and having the paperwork filed. The best bet then is to make sure the certificate is in place as soon as you make the move so that there are no truancy issues.

If in doubt - give the attendance officer a call. Remember - the only purpose this registration serves in the state of Mississippi is to ensure that your children are not skipping school... Nothing stressful there - you're in charge.

By the way - I've heard Time4Learning is great for kids with ADHD issues.

If you need any other info - post away or feel free to send me a message - I'm always happy to help.

Thanks for the information! I also posted something under one of your other subject titles. If you could take a look at it and offer any advice on those issues, I would greatly appreciate it. What type of curriculum do you use? What grades are your children in? How many hours a day do yall do school work and how much is direct parental involvement? these are just a couple of the questions that I posted on your other comment, or post! Thanks!
