    Default Introduction - New Student

This is the first time I am trying homeschooling. My first child went to the middle school in our area without a problem. My second child is now attending 6th grade there and the neighborhood has gotten worse and I do not want him exposed to the elements at that school. I am hoping this will prove to be a nurturing alternative for him.

Hi JDale, and welcome! You are not alone in your reason for wanting to homeschool. More and more families are realizing that even if the school is able to teach their children everything they need to know, the school environment itself can be unsafe. I hope as well, that your family finds homeschooling to be a nurturing alternative to public school.

The first thing I would like to suggest is taking a look at this Welcome to Homeschooling guide. It's got a lot of great information in it, but it's not so overwhelming that you need to take a break while reading it. I would also like to invite you to join the Wisconsin homeschool forum we have here...it can be a great place to connect with other homeschoolers near you, and find out about homeschool activities, laws, etc., in WI.

Good luck and enjoy this journey! Always feel free to ask any questions that you have here.
