    Default New to homeschooling

Hi all. I am new to homeschooling and am excited about it. I have wanted to do this for a long time. When we first moved to SC in 2012 I wanted to start homeschooling my son, but the hubby wanted him to go to a public school so he could socialize. It's been a nightmare. Bullying, getting up at 5am so he could get on the bus at 6am, and then go to a school so he can get made fun of. I am so glad I finally made the decision to put my foot down and do this. Wish I had of sooner, but better late than never. Do any of you use any other curriculum along with the time4learning? The law here requires basic instruction in reading, writing, arithmetic, science and social studies as well as composition and literature. Any tips on keeping a portfolio?

Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry you have had such a struggle with the school system. It sounds like you made a good choice for your child. You might be interested in the Getting Started Guide. You should also check out the forum for your state.

I have used Time4Learning as the base for our curriculum for six years now. We supplement with some handwriting and lots of field trips. My son learns best hands on. So the field trips are best for him.
