Hi Corrine, and welcome! The Language Arts Extensions is a complete alternative language arts curriculum, which can be used for extra practice or as a stand alone. Some parents have their kids do them at the same time as the other language arts lessons (like one of LA, one of LAExt). Some have their kids disregard them entirely. Then there are some, like me, who have their kids work on the extensions after they have completed the other LA lessons. There's really no wrong or right way to use them, or the other LA activities. Here is a link to our Language Arts Curriculum page so you can see more about all of the LA lessons. Good luck, and always feel free to ask any other questions you may have!

I was one of those who decided that there was no reason to do both so I skipped the LA Ext. Then I couldn't figure out why my son was having such a hard time learning to read. I went back and worked through the Language Arts Extensions with him and he is now reading. I think they are very important. They do teach different concepts than LA does.

I had my daughter do Lang. Arts one day and Lang. Ext. a different day. We rotated them and worked great.

Thanks, Kathi and Jackie! It's always good to get others' view points on these things, lol...I'm glad to hear that I wasn't alone in my "while I don't know exactly how to work these in, I know I don't want to leave them out" mentality.
