Subject: NY State-Funded Summer Writing Program for High Schoolers

Dear Educators, Readers, Writers and Community Members,

We are writing to publicize a not-for-profit, New York State-funded summer program for gifted writers who will be in grades 10-12 in September 2010. The program, which offers workshops in poetry, fiction and nonfiction, is open to public and private school students (as well as home-schooled students) who reside anywhere in New York State. Skidmore University in Saratoga Springs, NY, hosts the program.

Please publicize the program to deserving young writers.

The cost, including room, board and materials is $725. There is a $40 non-refundable application fee. HOWEVER, FINANCIAL AID IS AVAILABLE BASED ON NEED, INCLUDING TRAVEL STIPENDS.

This year's session meets from June 27 to July 3, 2010. Applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2010. More information, as well as downloadable brochures, applications and financial aid forms are available at: http://www.albany. edu/writers- inst/webpages4/ programpages/ nyssywi.html. For additional information, you may also contact the Office of the Dean of Special Programs, Skidmore University at 518-580-5599.

The New York State Summer Young Writers Institute permits student writers to interact with published writers, practice craft and meet other young writers from around the state. The program is an outgrowth of the New York State Writers Institute, in partnership with Skidmore University.

In addition to Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist William Kennedy, who directs the New York State Writers Institute, notable writers who have been involved with the Young Writers Institute in the past have included Joyce Carol Oates, Russell Banks, Rick Moody and Ann Beattie, amnong many others.

Thanks for passing the word.
