Default Home Schooling in Fayetteville, NC

    Hello,
I am Ms. Williams and I want to take my son out of public school and homeschool him. He has an IEP and he is a special needs 14 year old teenager in the 9th grade. I don't know how to get started to find someone to teach him in my home. We live in the Fayetteville area in Cumberland County. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Each state has its own homeschool laws. When you homeschool, the parent is the teacher of record and makes decisions for their own child's education. If you have an existing IEP, you can choose to use it. Some states also provide for a PDP, which stands for Parent Directed Plan.

I'm not sure if North Carolina allows for you to have someone else teach your child in your home. As homeschoolers, we (the parents) are the teacher of record and the home is the school. I suppose, you can hire tutors and still be the teacher of record.

Here are a couple of links to help you sort things out. This is a link from the Homeschool Legal Defense Association on the homeschool laws and requirements for North Carolina: http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/north_carolina.pdf
