    Thursday, June 23 - Locally Grown 2011

    LOCALLY GROWN is a summer-long series of FREE live concerts and movies on THURSDAY evenings. This summer's lineup includes nationally-known but locally-grown music acts as well as farmily-friendly and classic films. Bring a chair or blanket, grab food to-go from a downtown restaurant, and enjoy a picnic dinner under the stars.

    Wednesday, June 29 - NC Museum of Life and Science - Wednesdays for Durham County Residents

    There's always something new to see, learn and do at the Museum of Life and Science! On Wednesdays from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. admission waived for Durham County residents. ($2 per person contribution requested)

    This summer, your children 16 and under can bowl for free at your local AMF. Sound too good to be true? It’s not! Just register your children to get weekly coupons via email for two free games per child per day all summer long.     Saturday, June 25 - NC Museum of Natural Science: OUR EXPANDING OCEANS-The Blending of Art and Science

    Art inspires. Science educates. But what happens when those roles are reversed? Or better yet, combined? Witness Our Expanding Oceans, a comprehensive art & education exhibit. The exhibit will explore the major elements of global climate change & the greenhouse effect with an emphasis on melting ice & rising seas. It will feature approximately 60 dyed silk batiks, depicting aerial, satellite, & conceptual perspectives of our environment. These pieces, permeated with color, produce stunning panoramic effects.

    Monday, June 27 through Wednesday, June 29 - NC Museum of Art: 30 Americans

    Ends 09/04: 30 Americans highlights the work of 31 contemporary African American artists in an exhibition organized by and drawn from the Rubell Family Collection in Miami, Florida. Presented in the NCMA’s Meymandi Exhibition Gallery, 30 Americans consists of 70 works of art & includes painting, drawing, photography, video, sculpture, & mixed-media installations. The exhibition features both established & emerging artists & illustrates how a previous generation of African American artists has influenced the current generation. The exhibition focuses on artists who explore similar themes & subject matter in their work, primarily issues of race, gender, identity, history, & popular culture.

    Monday, June 27 - "Motherhood: The New Reality Show"

    Bring the baby, pack a lunch and join other new moms as we brainstorm tips on infant care and surviving motherhood. We will discuss developmental milestones of infant's, offer suggestions for transitioning back to work, answer feeding questions, and share resources for staying at home full-time. Come as often as you like! Classes are facilitated by Duke Pediatric Residents/Pediatrician and Teer House Breastfeeding Educator/Lactation Consultant.
