    Default iPad - Questions

I am considering purchasing an iPad for my son. We have gone back and forth with buying him a laptop or an iPad to use this program, but I have heard that there is no flash capability on the iPad. Therefore, he will not be able to use this program on an iPad. Can someone clarify that for me?

Also, users of both, would he be better served with an iPad or a laptop. I am looking at using it for both educational purposes and leisurely purposes.

    Thanks.

    Hello

Unfortunately, Time4Learning will not run on the iPad. Time4Learning is a flash based program, and at the present time, the iPad does not support flash.

However, we have had some parents suggest an app called iSwifter that allows you to run flash based programs on the iPad. There is a free version of the iSwifter application available which gives you a limited trial, so you may want to try this out before purchasing the app. Please note that Time4Learning has not tested the application, and that there is a cost for the program, but we have had it recommended so we pass the information along.

I actually was at the apple store asking about this yesterday. They said they do have the flash apps that would make it work only if you opened up through the app. He did give a suggestion for a free one but I figured it was way too much hassle and stopped listening and decided I would use my funding for a laptop instead. Then I know she can skype teachers and write reports on it in the future as well.

If you were still interested in it though it would not hurt to contact your local apple store and see for yourself. Oh I am looking at apples Mac Mini. My monitor I have now is compatible with it but will not be as clear as the ones they sell. I love the compactness of it and the fact it still a computer the size of a wii. its about $200 more though but its an investment for the school years and not just for now.

We would recommend an iPad, much easier for kids to manage, depending on the age of your kids. I have a 2 year old and 5 year old and they both use the iPad and enjoy it so much more than our laptop. Angela

With the suggestions made here, I went ahead and downloaded 2 different apps to run T4L. Rover for kids did not work. ISwifter works in a sense but doesn't have the audio supported which totally is fine for my 3rd grader on some lessons but will not be sufficient for my 1st grader. I was totally bummed it didn't work. Maybe someone can help with what I did wrong or if there is another option to run the flash based technology on the IPad. I spent the $10 to get the upgrade for ISwifter too I have an ipad2 and maybe that's the problem. My hubby will by the latest version if someone can verify t4l would work on the latest model.

Either way, I am grateful for this forum. I am learning a lot and love the support!

We just started using the IPAD(latest version) with the Puffin app from ITunes. It was $2.99 and so far it is wonderful. It has a full screen option and audio works great. However, it is a web browser and I haven't found any parental controls on it yet. Hope this helps =) H=)=0ope this helps

Thanks everyone for sharing this information. I just read on another post that a father used the app Apple Bcloud... (i think it was) and it worked for him. I also spoke to an apple specialist and she confirmed that she used an app to get a flash browser that worked fine. My 8 year old daughter and I are planning a 1 year trip around the world and have been happily using time4learning since pre-K. Many "specialists" at apple told me no Flash and never will be and so I've wasted hours finding the perfect netbook to lug around with us, on top of an iPad and an iPad mini, until my last call to apple, a few minutes ago, when I pointed out how the father on the forums did it and found out that yes, there are ways around it and ways to get time4learning to work. I am just ordering ours so haven't confirmed it yet for myself but since there are others on here that have found success, I think that time4learning.com should be confirming it and updating FAQ and letting everyone know.

Best wishes and aloha from Hawai'i to all the ohana (families)

Have you guys considered becoming a partner with a browser for ipad called rover? It is specifically an educational browser for kids and would allow your flash based curriculum to work on any iPad easily!
