Default thinking about homeschooling in texas Help

I am thinking about homeschooling. My son is in the seventh grade. I am somewhat confused. Does he need to do the STAAR test if we home school? Are we supposed to pick a curriculum right away? Not sure what Texas expects. Is there a set amount of hours we are supposed to do? I have looked at all these different links and cannot find the answers to these questions. What qualifies as curriculum anyway?

    Red face hope this helps.

Texas provides only one option: the family must
establish a homeschool as a private school. Texas’
other mandate is that the subjects of reading,
spelling, grammar, math, and good citizenship must
be taught. There is no testing, recordkeeping, notice,
    or other qualifications required.
