Default Just Started HS & Using T4L

I just discovered T4L last weekend and signed up right away. I withdrew my 7th grade daughter from public school two weeks ago and still had not decided on what to use for curriculum. After seeing T4L I had a feeling that she would enjoy it.

She started on Monday and really like everything -- especially language arts. Math is her weakest subject and even with T4L she's not crazy about doing math. But I think that will change because she has a teacher who made math very unpleasant for her.

The one question I have is about tests. She has completed the first two lessons in 7th grade math and has taken the quizzes. However, when I go into the report area it still shows those two as not mastered. Are there further tests that she should be taking besides the lesson quizzes? It also shows LA as not mastered either. Thanks.

    Hi,

My son and I are new to T4L too. This was his third week (6th grade). I believe it takes an 80 on the quizzes to show mastery. If she does not make an 80 she may retake the quiz, I've noticed that there are different questions on the quiz the second time around. Also the failed attempt remains on the report as part of the average - I don't think that can be changed. Once my son adjusted to the format of the program his quiz grades improved - it just takes a little bit to adjust to the teaching style. Also we are using a second site that was mentioned by one of the other posters called brainpop. A lot of the subject matter covered here has a correlating brainpop video, so what we do is what that video and take the brainpop quiz first then move back over to T4L. Brainpop usually takes about 15, but it's great reinforcement or initial instruction(and they have a free 14 day trial.)

    Have nice weekend,
    Victoria

She's gotten 88 to 100% on quizzes and it still does not show as mastered in the reports. Not quite sure what's going on.

    Kay,

If she completed the lesson/quiz and got 88% is should be marked as mastered. It may be possible that when your daughter was taking those quizzes it was during a time when Compass (the designer of the program) was doing some updates. It may have caused a temporary glich, which I have heard of happening before.

We will contact Compass and find out if there is a reason for it not being marked as completed. Did it mark it as even being started in the reports section? The more info I have about the problem the better chance I'll have of getting a helpful answer.

    Thanks,
    Kris C.

Kris -- thanks for the information. It still is showing as not mastered on anything that she has taken quizzes on. Even the ones where she got 100%. Not quite sure what's going on or if we're not doing something correctly. Any idea?

    Thanks,
    Kay

I'm not really certain if I'm misremembering or not...but I seem to recall only when you take the chapter test will it mark the various lessons as "mastered" rather than just "completed" and the overall chapter as "mastered" only if you get a certain number of lessons mastered...or maybe get a certain grade... Anyway, my son has a variety of "mastered"s and "completed"s, but only in completed chapters. Does this make sense? lol
