    Question New 8th grade

hi, i have a daughter in 8th grade who is considering homeschooling. We want to start soon, but she has already completed 3 months of school at her private school. We were wondering if she could start where she left off or if she would have to start over. We would also love to hear how anyone's 8th grade experience was with time 4 learning!
    Thanks

Hi. Since every school uses a different curriculum, there really is no "starting where you left off", even if you are simply changing from one public school to another. One school may teach American history for sixth grade, one may teach government, and one may focus on geography.

A lot of parents have their student do the chapter tests first. If they score well, they don't do the assignments in that chapter. If they don't score well, they do the assignments and then take the test again. (The test will be slightly different each time it is attempted, to keep the student from simply memorizing the answers to the test questions.)

You decide whether to have her start at the beginning of a grade level and try to work quickly or to simply get as much done as she can and begin where she left off next year. You can also use a different grade level for each subject. There is no such thing as a universal "fifth grade science" or "fourth grade social studies" (even though each curriculum has its own ideas about what to offer when). You can use whatever your child needs to learn, and you can change levels at any time.

I hope this helps, and hopefully others will come along with additional observations.

Mom of six . . . current students and homeschool graduates. Enjoying using Time4Learning since 2006!
