    Default Please add Hoffler Creek

Hi, Thanks for the list. In the City of Portsmouth, please add Hoffler Creek Wildlife Reserve. Hoffler Creek: Home is the website.

I don't recall if you have the City Park also located in Portsmouth. If not, please add it as well as the new train they have for the kids to ride. I think the train ride is $2 per child.

    Thanks!

Lightbulb Finding a fit as a homeschooler

After living in the Shenandoah Valley for over 10 years and having my children in several public schools as we moved around, I realized that public school is not the way for us. I felt like my children were missing vital experiences from their learning and forced to memorize outdated information for tests that have no relevance to their real life. I pulled them out and then started a quest for a homeschool group that reflected our family values without forcing us to adhere to a strict set of parenting or religious principles.
As I explored I realized I was not alone in my search for something else. I found a number of parents in the same boat I was in.
Thus, Prism Learning Community was founded. Prism is an inclusive and diverse homeschool cooperative and resource. Prism coordinates social activities, classes, seasonal celebrations, and community service projects. Our mission is to have a family centered community that offers opportunities to develop meaningful life skills, inspires a love of lifelong learning, and provides an inclusive space for all community members to share their passions. http://prismlc.wix.com/prism
What are other homeschool parents doing? Do you feel just as lost as I did?
Do you have teenagers who are looking for opportunities to join with other peers for educational experiences and fun?
My teen is becoming resistant to my teaching alone. He wants social and challenging activities.
I'm so happy he has Prism to participate in, frankly, he was driving me crazy. I couldn't keep up with his ever growing knowledge of technology and social media. Now he has a group to share that with.
Here are some of the class he loves. prism
    What do you think?
Want to join us in this adventure?
