Hi. Homeschooled students in Vermont need to take standardized tests OR get a portfolio evaluation . . . at least for the first two years they are homeschooled. "Just" handing in Time4Learning reports won't work, although the reports can be an important part of a student's homeschool portfolio. Here is information about maintaining a homeschool portfolio when you use Time4Learning, and here is information about Vermont's homeschool laws.

Admin, I am assuming that the OP here is posting regarding Virginia testing (VA) since that is what the post seems to specify and not Vermont (which is VT).

To the OP: Virginia requires standardized testing to be submitted by August 1st. You can set up testing yourself or you can opt to have the ITBS test admitted by the county school system in which you live, but this is only offered once a year by most districts. You can also hire a certified teacher to perform an evaluation of "Evidence of Progress". I recommend calling your local school board and speaking with the Home Instruction Specialist and also checking out Virginia Homeschool Laws | Home Educators Association of Virginia so that you can stay current with laws & requirements in Virginia. Keep in mind that since Virginia is a commonwealth, rules from county to county may vary on details such as deadlines (However, most use the August 1st deadline for testing).

I have been homeschooling in Stuarts Draft, VA for 3yrs and have used Seton Testing (IOWA test) IOWA Tests® - Seton Testing Services
This has satisfied the requirement for my school district. They usually run $39 each (K-2nd) and down to $29 for other grades. You can test once a year or even throughout the year to assess students level if you wanted to pay for the extra tests. You get a printout within two weeks of returning and I usually just send them a copy of those. They have great customer service to help with understanding their reports for the first time you get one (trust me, I know!!) Hope this helps!
